The leading ladies from MTV’s Faking It, Katie Stevens and Rita Volk, appeared on Maria Menounos' “after-show” network, AfterBuzz TV Tuesday night. In the interview, the actresses described their experience of stepping into roles where they “fake” being lesbians in order to gain popularity in high school.
This is the pilot season for the MTV romantic comedy and the characters of Karma and Amy are breakout roles for both Stevens and Volk, respectively. Stevens is best known for her participation on American Idol. The two play best friends who are mistakenly outed as lesbians, which launches them to instant celebrity status at their high school. Desperate to remain in the spotlight, they decide to go along with the ruse.
Stevens and Volk have been asked before about getting intimate on set. But when asked who is the better kisser, they revealed interesting specifics as to what it’s like kissing each actor. “I call Gregg [Sulkin] pillow lips,” Stevens said. Volk added that Greg has great hair, smells nice, and is British – so what more could you ever want? When asked about kissing Volk, Stevens says, “She's like Angelina Jolie,” and reminds her of Gisele Bundchen. Volk on the other hand enjoys staring at Stevens’ “voluptuous red lips before kissing them.” Talk about some serious on-screen action, though they didn't really answer the question about who is better.
As far as what the two would like to see in Season 2, both agree that they would like to see more of the parents. Volk would like to see Amy spend more quality time with her beauty queen mother, Farrah. “She needs to go out and be a little bit more of a girl. I think that would be a sweet moment.” Stevens would rather see a different type of interaction, saying, “I would really like to have Karma walk in on her parents smoking weed.”
The show has picked up traction on social media with fans who have identified themselves as the “Karmy Army.” When asked about the reception they were receiving, Volk commented, “We knew it was a really awesome concept, because there’s not anything like this for that demographic of young kids.” Whether or not Faking It will be renewed for season 2 should be announced next week.
