Angelina Jolie Has Been Poxed
Angelina Jolie didn't show up for the premiere of Unbroken this weekend, and it wasn't because she found out last week from the Sony leaks that Hollywood producer Scott Rudin called her a "minimally talented spoiled brat." ‘Birdman,’ ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ and ‘Boyhood’ Lead Critics’ Choice Movie Award Nominations
“Birdman” led all films in nominations for the 20th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, the Broadcast Film Critics Association announced on Monday morning. The Alejandro G. Inarritu film picked up 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Michael Keaton and supporting nominations for Edward Norton and Emma Stone.
Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” received 11 nominations; like “Birdman,” it had the advantage of qualifying in three separate comedy categories. Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood” was the top-performing drama, with eight nominations.
Multiple nominations also went to “Interstellar,” with seven; “Gone Girl” and “The Imitation Game,” with six; and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Into the Woods,” “Selma” and “The Theory of Everything” with five.

In the Best Picture category, “Birdman,” “Boyhood,” “Grand Budapest,” “Gone Girl,” “The Imitation Game,” “Selma” and “The Theory of Everything” were joined by “Nightcrawler,” “Unbroken” and “Whiplash.”
The Best Director nominees, who may presumably help narrow down the likeliest Best Picture winners from 10 to six, were Anderson for “Grand Budapest,” Ava DuVernay for “Selma,” David Fincher for “Gone Girl,” Inarritu for “Birdman,” Angelina Jolie for “Unbroken” and Linklater for “Boyhood.”
Overall, the nominations were expected good news for “Birdman” and “Boyhood,” and another show of strength for “Grand Budapest,” which has shown more staying power this awards season than many expected.
“The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything,” both of which came out of the fall festivals in strong position, held their own but once again missed key nominations for their directors, Morten Tyldum and James Marsh.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards like to present themselves as one of the most accurate predictors of Oscar nominations and wins, though their practice of nominating six films in many categories where the Academy nominates five clearly inflates their accuracy percentage.
Almost all of the prime Oscar contenders showed up in the CCMA nominations, with a few exceptions: Steve Carell failed to land a Best Actor nomination for “Foxcatcher,” and that film wasn’t nominated for Best Picture.
Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper,” meanwhile, received two nominations, but both were in the action-movie categories,
Tilda Swinton got into the Best Supporting Actress category for “Snowpiercer,” while Laura Dern didn’t for “Wild.” And Jake Gyllenhaal and Jennifer Aniston kept up their streak of being nominated in categories where only a couple of weeks ago they would have seemed to be real longshots.

A plethora of made-for-TV categories honoring comedies, sci-fi/horror films and action films makes the members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association less of an advisory board for Oscar voters than they’d like – but if you eliminate the extra categories and narrow the field to the 19 categories that overlap with the Academy, “Birdman” still leads with nine nominations, followed by “Boyhood,” “Gone Girl” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” with six and “The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything” with five.
The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the United States, numbering close to 300 television, radio and online critics. (Full disclosure: I am a member.)
In seven of the last eight years and 12 of the last 15, the winner of its top award has gone on to take the Oscar for Best Picture.

The 20th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will take place on Thursday, Jan. 15, about 12 hours after Oscar nominations are announced. It will be held at the Hollywood Palladium, hosted by Michael Strahan and broadcast live on A&E for the first time.
At the show, special awards will be given to Kevin Costner, Ron Howard and Jessica Chastain. Costner will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Howard will receive the Louis XIII Critics’ Choice Genius Award and Chastain, who is a Best Supporting Actress nominee for “A Most Violent Year,” will receive the newly-created Critics’ Choice MVP Award.

Samuel L. Jackson Challenges Celebrities to Sing Out Against Police Brutality
Samuel L. Jackson has a new challenge he hopes celebrities will flock to complete, much like they did the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that swept through social media earlier this year.
The “Pulp Fiction” star, who is also Marvel’s Nick Fury in “Avengers”-related blockbusters, is asking famous folks to sing out against police brutality.
*:* Eric Garner’s Daughter Does Not Think His Death Is a ‘Black and White Issue’
“All you celebrities out there who poured ice water on your head, here’s a chance to do something else,” Jackson said in a Facebook video message over the weekend. “I challenge all of you to sing the ‘We Ain’t Gonna Stop till People Are Free’ song.”
The lyrics to the song, which contains the famous last words of Eric Garner — a man choked to death by a police officer, who was not indicted — are as follows:
I can hear my neighbor cryin’ ‘I can’t breathe’
Now I’m in the struggle and I can’t leave.
Callin’ out the violence of the racist police.
We ain’t gonna stop, till people are free.
We ain’t gonna stop, till people are free.
*:* NFL Players Wear ‘I Can’t Breathe’ Messages to Support Eric Garner
“Come on, sing it,” Jackson adds.
So far, TheWrap could not find any examples of celebrities embracing the challenge.

NY Mag Stands by $72 Million Teen Investor Story as Teen Tells NY Observer It’s Total Fiction
NY Magazine is standing by its article reporting that Stuyvesant High senior Mohammed Islam made millions playing the stock market, despite growing evidence that the claims may not be true, including an interview Monday night with the NY Observer in which Islam admits he made it all up.
In its online post of the article, which initially appeared Monday in the print edition of the magazine, an editor’s note has been added backing away from the original $72 million dollar claim and the headline touting that figure has been changed, but it stands by the rest of the article, stating that Mohammed provided evidence of his eight-figure worth. NY Magazine has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Editor’s note: Mohammed Islam has denied that he made $72 million on the stock market. Our story portrays the $72 million figure as a rumor; the initial headline has been changed to more clearly reflect the fact that we did not know the exact figure he has made in trades. However, Mohammed provided bank statements that showed he is worth eight figures, and he confirmed on the record that he’s worth eight figures.
The note referenced an article on CNBC where 17-year-old Islam admitted that the $72 million figure was not accurate. Islam and a friend were scheduled to appear on CNBC’s “Halftime Report” after the article was published, but they backed out, according to CNBC on Monday afternoon.

“We expected a regular article about what we hope to do [in our career],” he told CNBC. “The way we were portrayed is not who we are.”
On Monday evening, the New York Observer sat down with Islam and his friend, Damir Tulemaganbetov, where the two admitted that Islam had not actually invested anything, nor had he made any money on the stock market.
*NY Observer: Is there ANY figure? Have you invested and made returns at all?*
Islam: No.
*NY Observer: So it’s total fiction?*
Islam: Yes.
Islam said that he had no idea where the $72 million figure cited by NY Magazine reporter Jessica Pressler came from. “[I led her to believe] I had made even more than $72 million on the simulated trades,” Islam said, before PR reps purportedly interrupted the proceedings and demanded a quick conference.

When the interview recommenced, Islam said, “All I can say is for the simulated trades, I was very successful. The returns were incredible and outperformed the S&P.”
Islam went on to tell the Observer that his parents are very upset with him for lying, and that he had to spend the night at a friend’s house. “Their morals are that if I lie about it and don’t own up to it then they can no longer trust me,” he said.
The Leaders Investment Club, of which Islam is a member, released a statement as well on Monday, in which they said they had performed due diligence and interviewed Islam. It has been brought to the attention of the Leaders Investment Club that Mohammed Islam has been rumored to have made $72,000,000 through making trades in the stock market. After performing due diligence and talking with Mohammed Islam himself, we have determined that these claims are false and simply been blown up by the media in the interests of sensationalism. We hold all our members to exacting moral and investing standards, and ask Mohammed Islam to clear up all misinformation surrounding his claims, misconstrued or otherwise. The goal of Leaders Investment Club is to promote the financial education of Millennials, and we disavow affiliation with members who fail to promote accurate and transparent information.

What Real TV Journalists Think Is 'The Newsroom's' Legacy
NYT Expose: Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai Toned Down Assassination of Kim Jong-Un in 'The Interview' Reported by The Wrap 11 hours ago.

They have “determined that these claims are false and simply been blown up by the media in the interest of sensationalism.” The club called for Islam to “clear up all misinformation surrounding his claims, misconstrued or otherwise.”

Oprah Winfrey and Jimmy Fallon’s Autotuned Soap Opera Is a Musical Disaster-piece (Video)
Did you know Oprah Winfrey and Jimmy Fallon starred together in a soap opera in the 1980s? Did you know Jimmy Fallon has a clip? It’s become a classic set-up for a recurring bit where Fallon and his guests pretend to have starred in some ridiculous project together and then fake clips from it, rushing back to their seats afterward.
The shows are always ridiculous, and Monday night’s installment proved no different. It wasn’t enough that Winfrey and Fallon starred together in this cheesy soap opera — that saw Winfrey slapping him at the end of every scene — they also had their voices autotuned.

Why? Because it’s funny, that’s why.
“Midnight Meadows” featured big hair and big shoulderpads, and strangely distorted voices. First they were high and squeaky like Alvin and the Chipmunks, but by the second scene their voices had dropped to a classically demonic pitch.

The third and final episode, for which Winfrey and Fallon were almost too winded to perform, took the autotune to its modern usage in music, with Winfrey singing through presenting her husband with “a brand new car!”

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Highly Desirable France.com Domain Name Provides a Significant Opportunity to Capitalize on the $10.8 Trillion Travel Market
France.com Domain Name Now Available Exclusively With Igloo.com
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 16, 2014
Igloo.com, a leading broker of premium domain names and websites, has been engaged to broker the sale of one of the world’s most valuable domain names, France.com. This top ranking domain name is highly searchable, easy to remember and provides an exciting opportunity for a savvy investor or existing business to continue to grow an already thriving business either within the travel industry or well beyond.
On the travel front, The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development states that, "France is the world’s top tourist destination, with 83 million foreign tourists. So it remains the global leader, with the dynamic tourism sector boasting a surplus and rapidly transforming under the combined effect of a new, emerging clientele and a broader range of things on offer to international tourists." Additionally, it was announced this year that France will kick off UEFA EURO 2016 (one of the most prestigious soccer tournaments in the world) at the Stade de France, the venue which will also host the final, creating added opportunity and potential for the France.com domain name.
According to the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC), tourism will reach a global value of US $10.8 trillion by 2018. Keeping in mind that the fast-growing online travel sector already represents 38% of the overall travel market, geo-specific domains like France.com will only appreciate in value affording built-in asset protection on the buyer’s upfront investment. According to the WTTC, Travel & Tourism is growing faster than any other sector, already accounting for 9.5% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and 266 million jobs. Over the next 10 years Travel & Tourism’s global impact on GDP is set to rise by 4% each year. Aside from travel, France elicits feelings of romanticism, represents high fashion and is world-renowned for it’s fine food, wine and cheeses.
While events like The Cannes Film Festival and The Tour de France draw millions and destinations like Paris, The French Riviera and Provence make France synonymous with travel. A company in the beverage or fashion industry or almost any luxury market could truly capitalize on this globally recognized name as their next brand! It is interesting to note that France actually surpassed both Spain and Italy to reclaim the title of biggest wine producer last year and a wine can only be labeled as "champagne" if it is made in the Champagne region of France.
Europe’s leading drink trade publication, the drinks business, recently reported that a limited edition bottle of Goût de Diamants’ (the champagne brand aimed at the hip hop community to rival rapper Jay-Z’s favourite fizz, Armand de Brignac) carried a value of over $1.8 Million making it the most expensive single bottle of Champagne in the world! While the celebrities are busy drinking pricey champagne, French designers, including Chanel, Christian Dior, have been given credit for outfitting many of them on the Red Carpet bringing more positive attention to French culture and providing more possibilities for the France.com domain name. As long as French destinations like Côte d'Azur and Cap Ferrat continue being referred to as the “Playground of the rich and famous” and the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continue to choose to wed in France, France will remain on the forefront of social media headlines and people’s minds.
With a domain name like France.com, the new owner will gain instant trust and credibility,” said Tessa Holcomb, CEO of Igloo.com. “France.com is not just a great domain name; it’s a global brand, making it a truly exceptional asset. It’s not often that a domain name of this caliber becomes available for sale and we’re looking forward to helping France.com reach its unique potential!
